No Dust Storms Can Sweep Them Away: Sue Kunitomi Embrey, the Manzanar Concentration Camp, and the Demand for Social Justice

Monica Embrey PO '09 will discuss the connection between the concentration camps, her grandmother Sue Kunitomi Embrey’s experience organizing the annual Manzanar Pilgrimages and what is happening today. Sue Embrey worked tirelessly to ensure that the incarceration would never be forgotten—and, as a result, although many disheartening similarities with 1942 remain, today “a mass movement demanding justice” is in force. In conjunction with Monica’s presentation, her grandmother’s papers will be showcased in the Asian Library area of The Claremont Colleges Library.
