Fair Use and Primary Sources: Using Online Tools to Help You Determine Copyright and Permissions In-Person
In honor of Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week (February 20-24, 2023), we are offering a special presentation that graduate students and faculty may be especially interested in.
Primary sources can be found everywhere, especially in special collections and archives across the world and increasingly in both open digital collections and proprietary databases. In this presentation, we will tackle the steps to take and some tools to use to responsibly navigate fair use and copyright when using primary sources in your research.
Topics covered in this workshop:
- What is copyright and what tools exist to help you navigate it?
- What is your responsibility when it comes to using copyrighted materials in your research?
- What can you do if your use of copyrighted materials falls outside of fair use?
