Discovery and Resource Sharing: Expanding Local Access Globally

The Claremont Colleges Library marks the unveiling of our new discovery system with a program titled: ”Discovery and Resource Sharing: Expanding Local Access Globally.”  In efforts to expand our resource sharing options, giving students and faculty from the Claremont Colleges rich and broad access to information, the library looks forward to sharing trends in academic libraries and engaging in meaningful conversations regarding information science, access, and literacy.

The program includes a panel of leaders in resource-sharing, organized by our own Micquel Little, Director of User Services and Resource Sharing.  Our keynote speaker will be Lorcan Dempsey of OCLC Research, an international thought-leader and much sought-after speaker in the library profession.  Here is his brief bio:

Lorcan Dempsey coordinates strategic planning and oversees Research, Membership and Community Relations at OCLC.  He has worked for library and educational organizations in Ireland, the UK and the US.  His influence on national policy and library directions is widely recognized.  In 2010 he received the National Federation of Advanced Information Services' (NFAIS) highest award, the Miles Conrad Award.  Lorcan began his career in public libraries in his native Dublin, Ireland.  Before moving to OCLC, he managed the UK higher education national investment in information services for Jisc.

Please RSVP by September 3rd.  The program will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00PM. Lunch and snacks will be provided. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and mingle with faculty and librarians from the Claremont Colleges as well as our surrounding colleagues in California!
